Exciting coding and STEM games for kids
codeSpark Academy has been a leader in coding apps for kids and with good reason. With over 1,000 activities kids learn fundamental coding concepts (plus math and reading skills) quickly in a fun environment.
We love that the mechanics of this app allow kids to approach problems in creative ways using simple logic.
While you need to purchase a subscription as soon as you start the app, we find it to be worth the cost and much better than in-app purchase models.
Aside from learning with the apps preset activities, older kids can create, design, and code their own stories and games. These can then be safely shared with other kids in the codeSpark Academy world.
KidSafe certified and free of external ads and in-app purchases, this app is a safe and immersive place for your child to learn coding fundamentals quickly and easily.
The app starts out for parents (or schools) with a quick video that explains what codeSpark Academy is and the various gameplay options it has. Once you’ve created an account and purchased your subscription (monthly or annually / $7.99 – $79.99) you’ll be able to choose all the basic settings for your child. Choose if you’ll allow recording and microphone access, plus the ability to share with other players. Given that this is KidSafe certified we’re confident that your child’s privacy is protected.
Once the account is set up your child can choose their character. Additional characters can be unlocked by completing tasks in-game, encouraging kids to stick with coding lessons that may start to feel difficult.
The cute art style and music will draw in most children quickly. Kids can choose between puzzles, creation, or exploration. There are also special events, great for kids who may have gone through a lot of the content already.
The coding experience is built directly into the gameplay, so rather than a formal lesson players will begin learning the foundations of coding simply by playing the games.
In the Puzzles portion of the app, kids learn coding lessons like sequencing, loops, events, and conditionals.
Kids who prefer a little splash of excitement and games will love the Explore section of the app that features multiplayer coding in a fun water balloon game, automation, stacks and queues, and boolean logic.
There is also the option to create within the app, which is definitely geared towards the older end of players. Kids can create their own games and stories that can be shared within the codeSpark Academy community. They can also play other games created by players.
With new activities released regularly, this app can teach a total novice the foundations of code in engaging and creative ways. We love it for parents too!
