Hungry Caterpillar Play School is a fantastic app for parents looking to get ahead in their child’s early learning. Featuring interactive characters from the entire Eric Carle world, this educational app is immersive, engaging, and most importantly, fun.
The app is targeted to preschoolers and cover everything they need to be learning, from math and science to arts and comprehension. Our playtesters found the app to be engaging and loved the interactive activities like tracing letters and numbers to solving fun puzzles.
The app is full of stories and songs helping to enforce what kids just learned. The 3D playgrounds are exciting and the puzzles, while repetitive, are great at ensuring children are absorbing what they are learning.
While the monthly and annual price points are on the high-end ($7-$60) we found that the content was worthwhile. Monthly updates to the app keep the content fresh and there’s no shortage of things for a child to accomplish. For parents questioning the financial commitment, there is a 7-day free trial of the app.
The app is KidSafe certified, meaning it passed rigorous 3rd party testing (and a hefty certification fee!) to prove that it is entirely safe for young kids. It’s also free of ads and can be played offline, a complete win in our books.

Upon opening the game parents will be immediately prompted to set up an account and purchase a subscription plan. Choices are a monthly plan or an annual plan, both of which include the 7-day free trial.
Once you’re back in the game you’ll be given clear instructions on how to proceed within a simple and intuitive menu system. The graphics and audio are simple, but attractive to young learners. This game does require audio, so be sure that’s set up in advance of starting!
There are countless activities to go through, all of which build upon one another. Corrections are subtle and encouraging and properly completed tasks are enthusiastically celebrated.
Our playtesters were engaged and particularly liked the library of stories included.
