Miga Town: Apartment is part of the growing family of Miga apps by XiHe Digital (GuangZhou) Technology Co.
Kids can explore an apartment building and interact with its various inhabitants, exploring from room to room. The art is very reminiscent of the Toca Life apps, as is the game play.
The game experience is much lighter than the Toca Boca apps and features just one in-app purchase for $3.99, unlocking apartments 1 – 3, an outdoor area, and a shop. Frankly, we didn’t find it to be worth much value since that the game is so light on gameplay already. Based on player reviews in the app stores, kids also seem to feel that this experience is “Toca lite” and not very engaging.
The privacy policy is scant at best and leaves a lot of questions around what data is being collected about players and how it’s being used. While the app stores have some checks in place to attempt to protect children’s privacy, these are easily bypassed by app developers, so we can’t say with any confidence that data collection isn’t an issue with this game or any of the other Miga Town apps.
This app may be good to test your child’s interest in a Toca Boca style game before paying for one as the gameplay styles are very similar.
The game opens outside the apartment building in a cute town setting. Once inside, players can begin to explore the various apartment units and meet the cast of characters.
Various elements throughout the game are interactive and the sound effects add a cute level of charm. The art style is wholesome with a fun variety of characters and scenes.
Purchasing the one expansion pack allows you to explore more of the building, opens some of the outside world, and unlocks the shop with fun new items.
Overall the game is very easy for young players to play make-believe in a digital dollhouse setting. The simple purchase screen doesn’t clearly allude to what is offered, so many young players likely won’t fully recognize that the free experience is missing much.
