My Little Pony Color By Magic

Color By Magic is a My Little Pony-themed tap-to-color game. By coloring pictures, kids are able to help Twilight Sparkle renovate the Museum of Friendship with all new floors, walls, and decorations.

ABOUT

My Little Pony Color by Magic is a free-to-play color to tap with all of its best content locked behind a subscription of $4.99 a month. In the free version, you can only play for a limited time before having to wait for your “play tokens” (apples) to recharge. (30 min per 1 play token) While in-app purchases aren’t required to progress, this game has a lot of content locked away and is made to encourage kids to purchase more play tokens with real money.

There are two major in-app purchases that are offered to you whenever you click on a locked color/item in the game. You’ll either see an ad for their $4.99/month subscription to unlock everything, or an ad to purchase more play tokens for $2.99

If your child loves My Little Pony and coloring then they’ll likely enjoy this app. Naturally, there isn’t any educational content in the app, but it’s wholesome creative time with the beloved characters of My Little Pony.

The app is safe as well so you can feel comfortable with your child playing unattended (minus the ability to purchase).

GAME PLAY

The game opens on a notice that the game is free to try and that in-app purchases may be required to progress.  Once playing the game, kids will help My Little Pony characters fix up a museum by repairing and redecorating the floors, walls, doors, and windows. They can also choose to paint on their own in the gallery on very limited pages/images.

This is done in two stages. First, the child selects a portion of the museum that needs renovating. Then, a coloring page will appear where children tap the required spaces to fill in pre-selected colors and shapes to create a colored page. This is less of a coloring page and more of a “tap to reveal the finished image” type of game. If the child has trouble knowing where to tap next, there is a hint spyglass button that helps them. (These images get more complex as you progress.)

Once completed, it allows the player to choose from 1-3 choices to spruce up that piece of the museum. For instance, after coloring a page of a pony and a butterfly, players get to choose whether they want white marble floors or polished wood floors. Each time you do this, it costs one “apple” which is an in-game currency needed to play. Once out of the 5 apples you start with, you will have to wait a 30 minute per apple recharge time, (recharges up to 5 apples) or purchase 100 apples for $2.99.

It is worth noting that the best options (like the color of the walls or staircase, and most of the colors and paint tools for use in the free color gallery)  are locked behind a monthly fee of $4.99 a month.

There is also a picture that you can paint as many times as you like with whatever colors you like. While this mini-game is still the tap to color function, it allows for more freedom because the colors aren’t selected for you.
