My PlayHome

An imaginative play game featuring two 3-story “virtual dollhouses” with over 30 dolls/characters.

ABOUT

At $3.99, users purchase 2 transportable virtual dollhouses with 3 floors each and a variety of rooms filled with accessories to play in. Compared to other virtual dollhouses, there is a reasonable amount more in terms of space to play, however many of the rooms might be boring for kids (sitting rooms, lack of playrooms for kids, etc.). The big difference between My PlayHome and the alternative options on the app store is the art design. This game features an old-school hand-illustrated look, and some may feel it looks dated because of this.

There really isn’t much educational value in My PlayHome, which is to be expected. It’s about as educational as a real doll house would be.

There are no in-app purchases, however, there are ads that exist when you exit the home and move down the street. We were a bit disappointed by this given the age group My PlayHome was created for.

The privacy policy for this My PlayHome has kids safety in mind and won’t collect information on your child.

GAME PLAY

My PlayHome opens up on the title page, which features one of the houses. After pressing play, you are able to scroll between the floors and rooms: (Yard, Kitchen, living room, Bedroom, Bathroom, Kids Bedroom, etc.) Once you’ve chosen a room, you can pull characters out of your character dock and place them where you like amongst the room’s many set pieces and character accessories. In this character dock, there are over 30 characters to play with! There are various character accessories that interact with the characters and with each other.

Many animations help aid imaginative play as kids move items between characters and containers. For instance, food will sizzle when you drag and drop it into the oven. Characters won’t eat raw meat until it’s cooked, and characters will consume food as you drag it to their mouths. There is a lot to explore and play with on these interactive floors. It is much like a digital dollhouse as you play around with their clothing and accessories. This game is very similar to other virtual dollhouses, and really the core differentiator in this app is the illustrative design style.

A few other things that set this game apart:
You have to cook raw meat before dolls can consume it.
This game has a very simple animation system where characters can jump on the trampoline and beds, and you can push them in a tire swing. Our playtesters liked these fun additions.

In MyPlayHome games, you can also exit the building you are viewing and scroll down the street to see other buildings like the school and hospital which are place holding ads for their other locations/games. If you own any of these other games, it will pretty seamlessly, swap applications when you tap on the building from the street view.
