PAW Patrol Rescue Run

A $3.99 jumping side-scrolling platformer game featuring the characters from Nick Jr’s Paw Patrol.

ABOUT

If your young one loves PAW Patrol then this basic side-scroller is a simple, but fun experience. At $3.99, users purchase 3 short levels (The Bay, Jake’s Mountain, The Train) that have two parts each. The first is the main side-scrolling platformer section and lasts about ¾ of the level. The next part of each level is a short sorting or water blasting as you try to clean up litter or refuse made by a big storm.

Like all Nick Jr games, PAW Patrol is COPPA compliant, meaning your child will be safe as they play this game.

There is very little educational value here. In a minute or so long segment in the first level, kids will sort recyclables from non-recyclables and that’s about as educational as it gets.

It should be noted that there are two other levels that are sold at $1.99 each as in-app purchases. Other than this, there are no ads.

GAME PLAY

The game allows for 4 separate users to play and save their progress. Once you create a user account (just a username), Rider will explain that a storm has torn through Adventure Bay and that the Paw Patrol is needed to clean up. After that, you’ll be taken to the level menu where you can choose from one of three levels. Each level has two different characters to play as. Each of these levels has a longer side-scrolling adventure to start where the primary gameplay is tapping anywhere on the screen to jump to avoid running into walls as your dog collects treats and taps on collectables to earn badges.

After that, the level will have a very brief segment where you help the dog clean/sort trash in order to clear and clean up from the storm. You do this by tapping and dragging to sort trash where it goes (trash, or recycling/big log or little log)

It should be mentioned that the gameplay mechanics are simple but don’t seem the most polished. The tapping mechanic for anything but jumping is weirdly finicky. As a result, the collectibles are hard to get for an adult and may be impossible for a young child. This is especially unfortunate because most of the game’s replayability (which is important for short games like this) lies in the potential to collect these collectibles to earn badges.
