The PBS KIDS Video app gives kids and parents access to thousands of free videos, including full episodes and clips from the top PBS KIDS series.
The PBS Kids video app is great for parents who want access to streaming PBS children’s content on the go.
The app has all of PBS KIDS content with new episodes added weekly. It also has a live stream with a schedule based on your location.
The app is basic in its controls however it will require a quick lesson for a child to understand its functionality.
You’re unable to choose which episodes to watch, however, you can skip episodes. Each episode does have a brief message from a sponsor but does not link out from the app.
As to be expected the privacy policy for the app is strong ensuring your child is protected while using the app.
Within the parent dashboard, you can see the latest apps from PBS Kids, your local PBS Kids schedule, and can turn on CC.
The app doesn’t allow pre-downloading episodes so you’ll need 3G or WiFi to use the app.
Entering the app gets you right into the TV viewing experience. There is typically a commercial for one of the shows, followed by a sponsor message, and then a show episode.
On the right side of the screen, you can scroll through various shows to choose from or select the live stream.
There is no episode list for any of the shows so you’ll need to get through the opening segment to know which episode you are on (you can also fast forward). You can skip forward or back on any episode which is great if your child has already seen the one in the queue.
Outside of turning on closed captioning, there are no parental controls. Accessing the parental area has no age gate so kids will likely see promotions for other PBS Kids apps.
