Sesame Street Alphabet Kitchen has limited content and is a bit of a letdown, primarily for its lack of depth of content. The 3 dollar price point only gets you two repetitive activities to play through. Kids will see all the content this game has to offer after playing it for an hour or less. Some very young ones might not care or notice the lack of content, but at $2.99, we expected a little more value. You get Cookie Monster and Elmo to guide you though, and that is the premium you’re paying for with this mobile game.
Despite this being Sesame Street intellectual property, the educational content here is moderate. Kids will choose from letters to finish 3 letter words and be encouraged to share cookies with their fellow chef, Cookie Monster. They will also hear Elmo say the name of letters that kids choose to cut with their letter cookie cutters.
There is a small corner with an “other games” ad on the title page, but no in-app purchases once you’re in the game.
The game starts with a greeting by the title screen and the voice of Cookie Monster. Then Elmo and Cookie monster will invite you to make cookies. The player can either choose to decorate with Cookie Monster or Elmo.
If you choose Cookie Monster, the activity consists of Cookie Monster cutting two letters out of cookie dough and asking the player to choose from a few different letters to complete 3 letter words. After that, the player uses 3 colors of frosting to pour into a bowl and mix as a simple way of decorating the color of the cookie’s frosting. After finishing a word cookie, Cookie Monster will fit that word in context with a sentence. When 4 cookies are finished, the player taps on the cookies to simulate bites or drags them to Cookie Monster to share with him. If you wait too long, Cookie Monster’s addiction will get the better of him and he will eat them all anyway.
If you choose Elmo, the activity consists of using vowel cookie cutters to cut out 5 cookies. When cutting a cookie from the dough, Elmo will say “E!” or “O!” and occasionally (but not most of the time) throw in an “E! Like Elephants!” From there Elmo directs kids to decorate the cookies. Kids can choose from frostings, icings, sprinkles, eyes, noses, mouths, and fruits to top the cookies before sharing them with Cookie Monster and Elmo.
