ABOUT
Toca Life World: Build Stories brings together the Toca worlds into one comprehensive app, making it easier for kids to create the world of their dreams in one central place. If you’ve already purchased other Toca Life apps, you’ll be able to import all that content, saving you from having to purchase again within this app.
The app comes pre-loaded with 8 locations and 39 characters, which we found to be an ample starter pack for new players starting their storytelling journey in the Toca Life world.
There are multiple in-app purchases, all based on expanding the world and its inhabitants. Prices range from $.99 to $13.99. There are also multiple promotions of the other Toca Boca apps. While this can be turned off by parents, we found it to be quite a lot of promotion to buy more, particularly as the cart icon is everpresent.
Like all Toca Boca apps, this is an open-ended play experience where kids can customize different characters in fun locations. There is the option to record in Toca Life World, capturing not only what’s happening on-screen, but also the players voice so they can narrate a story. While the app does ask permission to use the microphone, this may be a setting you want to set up in advance of having your child play.
The app is updated frequently and players receive weekly gifts. It’s an immersive and inclusive experience, great for any child over 4.

Toca Life World: Story Builder is all about creativity, exploration, and storytelling. Upon entering the game kids have the opportunity to immediately start exploring the 8 locations of Bop City. This vibrant environment allows kids to make-believe they are within a unique world full of familiar places. From the hairdresser to their own apartment, kids get to explore and interact throughout their gameplay experience.
Purchasing additional packs unlocks more of the Toca Life World and introduces new characters to play with. Fun special events also introduce limited-time experiences to keep the world feeling fresh. Kids can also get their own pets in-game, go to school, or customize their appearance.
Using the recording functionality kids can narrate their own stories while playing in the Toca Life World. Recordings are saved directly to your device and can be played back and shared at a later time.

Summary
We think this is a great game for young players. It’s expressive, creative, and engaging in a safe and private environment. The parental controls are great, however if a parent is unaware of the option to change game settings young players will see a lot of promotions for other Toca Boca apps and in-app purchase opportunities.
